Topic: What type of board do you primarily ride? Posted: 10 January 2008 at 5:46pm |

This poll is to see what type of vehicle our readers typically use to ride the surf.
The poll is limited to six options, so that's why some things are grouped together.

hmm.. I can't vote... but I surf a 8.4 aipa big boy stinger primarily.... Its kind of short for a long board, and it's long for a shorboard, but its not a funshape or a fish.... I'm gonna say it probably belongs in the longboard category.

8 foot sponge board but would like to get a 8'4" AIPA stinger like Baratacus (need to take care of some other things first-things are a wee bit slow being a RE appraiser)

Someone needs to come up with an equation where you enter your height, weight, board dimensions, board bouncy and it spits out your board type for the purposes of this survey.

I love how the standup paddle boards are in the same area as kayaks. Funy as hell. Might as well have put a canoe up there.

I was thinking of adding Kiteboarder to that group.
The funniest term I have heard for standup paddle boarder is janitor. And if you watch these guys move around, it does look like the are mopping the floor.

I really don't ride anything over 6'10 unless it's my gun in big surf or occassionally the lonboard with my SSD buds.

Pretty good, but that video would have been better if they had the Pine-sol song in the background.

My longest board is my newest, an 6'6" x 19.5 x 2.5 egg, from Joe Blair. Then I got a semi-gun, 6'4, a Flyer II, 6'0 and a Flyer epoxy, 5'10

Yes, he still makes those rails, his own invention. I really like my egg, but it took awhile to get used to.
His main expertise is big-wave guns, though. Might get one for next winter.
He used to live in Hawaii, but is now stationed in Solana I believe. Funny guy, lots of stories.

Post up some pics of that new board. I've always loved egg shapes, from my Rusty 6'8" down to a Kies custom 6'4". There's something graceful about a fuller template with a wide nose, and the extra volumn doesn't hurt either. Always thought is was amusing when people would comment about my "fun board". An eggs performance is only limited by it's riders ability. BTW...the poll looks almost 50/50 - if the fish are shortboards.

lol, when it gets small I drag my room mates soft board out. It's the biggest thing I've got to ride right now. Sometimes I just take it out for fun on a sizeable day. People see me on a soft board and they crowd in and paddle for my waves thinking I'm on a sponge and don't know how to surf. They get a really shocked look when I drop into the pocket and hoot for them to pull out of the way. After some nice floaters and off the lip turns they back off and make some space.
I Totally agree that the board doesn't define the surfers performance, the surfer defines the boards performance.
