Hi there!

My boyfriend wants to get a board and we are trying to figure out what might be the best starter board for him.

He's about 5'9" / 170lbs, pretty athletic, and has spent most of his life on a skateboard/snowboard.

He's gone surfing maybe 10 times and rode 7'6 to 6'3 boards (he could balance and paddle on the 6'3, but found it hard to catch waves). He'd like to eventually move towards shortboarding.

Right now he's thinking of getting either the NSP 6'8" Funboard or the NSP 6'6" Shortboard. Can anyone out there tell me how these boards differ in ride?

THANKS!

if it's hard for him to catch waves on a 7'6" board, you don't wanna go shorter you wanna go bigger and more bouyant. can he pop up without difficulty?

good things come to those who wait

e-mess--  thanks for the reply!

yeah, he had no problem catching waves and popping up on the 7'6, so he went shorter.  I think he was good on a 6'8 also.  But he last rode a 6'3" shortboard which was difficult.

He's never tried the NSP 6'6" shortboard and is trying to figure out if this might be a BETTER board to purchase (versus the 6'8" that he's already ok on) so he could grow with it a little more.

Do you have any experience on the 6'6" short and 6'8" fun?  How does the dimensions affect the ride?  Is the 6'6" much more difficult to balance and catch waves on?

Thanks so much for your input--will help us find the right board!!

the NSP 6'8" fun and the 6'6" short are totally different boards . the width and thickness and especially the outline . i would reccomend the 6'8" over the 6'6" if he is just starting out . it is a great board . after he can over power the fins , gets some FCS fins and pop them into the adapters that should have come in the access. kit . another option is the 6'4" FISH . it floats very well and is very manueverable .
