ano nuevo cove is pretty much considered safe from the GWs. its in a sheltered area with a bunch of rock formations that form a beautiful wedge. one of the best waves in cali Id say. the elephant seals do their thing about 500 yards down the beach from the cove.

Went to Tamarack today, and it was choppy as hell. Disappointing session, and exacerbated by the notion that the water temperature felt like it was a good 7 degrees lower than last week. Weird.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Surfed Sol B this morning, crossed up but no wind. A few good sets came through early on, but that possibility disappeared with the tide. Talked to D-Dave who had just got back for Terra Mar, he said it was about the same up the coast.

Tamarack suuuuuucked today. Was there for almost the entire afternoon, and the waters were just way too choppy to attempt something. You think a huge wave is coming and lineup for it, and then it subsides, only for you to get you ass kicked by a wave creeping up completely behind it.

Surfed Sunset Cliffs this morning.
After 11 days of being out of the water, broke out the longbard, (1st time all year) and it was a good decision. The waves were 2-4 ft, and peaky. It was definitely better around low tide. My best ride was my first one, connected it all the way to the inside for a ~75 yarder.
As the tide began getting higher, the waves softened up. It basically turned into a slow drop into the wave, then nothing. It'll be interesting to see how the beach breaks open up this afternoon. Glad to be out in the water, and still being able to trunk it.

I showed up at 6:30 at sunset cliffs and the surf was too mushy for my board, sorry I missed you. Scripps was fun, choice waves around head high with a bunch of shoulder and chest high sets in between.

Very small day today at Ponto, but it was still quite a bit of fun. Since it was pretty much flat throughout the entire afternoon there were only a couple longboarders in the water, which was a shame for the people missing out; lots of regular thigh-high waves with loooong looong breaks.
Hopefully tomorrow's bigger, and more of the same kinds of waves.

Hit IB before work around 8:00am. The surf was a consistent 3-4 ft, breaking fast, and dumping hard on to the sandbars. All in all, some really fun jamburgers out there.

Went to Shores at around 3:30. It was pretty crowded, but definitely the best sets of the week; slow, chest to shoulder high rollers breaking slow but closing out fast. I finally got over my psychological barrier a week ago, which made this session particularly exhilarating.
Tomorrow should be a gajillion times better, which'll be awesome.

Was at sunset cliffs around 2:30, occassional big overhead waves, totally fun. Some head high sets in between, not too much slow time. Nicely lined up. Some of the best waves I've seen in a couple of months. And like Twee said, it's supposed to get better tomorrow.

i also paddled out at cliffs today at maybe 2ish. Really fun and you didn't have to wait long for a set. Around 3 or so the wait time in between sets increased but it wasn't too bad

Surfed N. La Jolla Shores/S. Scripps. The surf was coming in @ shoulder high, w/ head high sets. A bit closed out, and the waves would build, slow, then wall up and crash. There were sections out there, just had to be patient.

Checked out Shores again this afternoon. Waves weren't as clean as yesterday, but they were still surfable. Nice consistent sets of slow breaking shoulder and head high waves.
Unfortunately it was cold as sin today, and apparently it's going to rain this weekend, so it looks like I'll be finally buying a wetsuit tomorrow.

Went to SMJ today around 2pm and it looked good but mushy, however only working on one spot with a crowd at it. So I joined a bud at Tourmo and enjoyed some shoulder/head high rollers totally fun. There is size out there, go find it.

Got a late start & decided to hit IB. Chest to shoulder high. Breaking much faster than normal, and the usual shore break. I was able to tuck & pull in on one wave, then had kick the board forward to get away from it. That wave body slammed me pretty good. So happy fall is here!

Met a bud over at Birdrock but it just wasn't happening, most of PB point wasn't. Drove by Wind an Sea and it seemed to be catching, but just too crowded.
We drove over to hospitals, never surfed it, best call. Occasional overheads with lots of head high sets, a lull once in a while but still fun. Got a little crowded towards the end. Fun drops to some steep insides, but you had to bail out before the wave closed out or you ended up on 3ft of water on a reef, totally fun!!

I wasnt' going to surf today but got a text from Kitasan and got motivated to go (had gone three days in a row, was letting the old body recup) and went to SMJ today around 2:30. Super bumpy and lots of current, hard to get out, got my arse worked over on the way out.
Super big, way overhead++ and fun. Dropped in on two super huge waves, totally stoked, 9ft+ faces at least. The chop made it hard to handle and I took out the wrong board, but all in all I had a blast.
On a side note: took some of the worse wipeouts today, ribs and neck in pain, but totally worth it. Tim saw me get the worse one, I dropped in on an at least an 8ft to 9ft face and made the drop, but then I hit a mistery chop and the board just totally stopped and I did a full on faceplant. Funny, hurt like hell, but I came up laughing and hurting.

15th street was pretty big in Del Mar this morning. 6 foot sets with an occaisional 8 footer. Little soft though if you were on the outside, mostly longboarders catching stuff. Everybody was getting worked when rogue waves would come through and crash on everyone who suddenly found themselves stuck on the inside.
I'd never been there before and pretty much needed an 8 minute rest after the hell-ish paddle out - big sets breaking on your head all the way out plus the break is a lot further off shore than anywhere else I normally surf (or maybe the turtle rolling every 30 seconds just made it seem that far; it's hard to paddle through the frothy soup!). Taking tomorrow off simply because I don't think my arms will be recovered (they were already tired from 4 days in a row of surfing before today). Plus I'm not sure if I should be taking my board out right now (see board damage post in the Just Learning forum)...
Oh, and there was a large, adult seal (maybe sea lion, couldn't tell) washed up on shore =( Good news was, didn't see any bit marks on it.

Surfed the South Mission Jetty this afternoon with the math teacher. It was a big bumpy combo swell with the largest surf I'd seen in a while.
We caught it just after high tide, and the waves were breaking 6' inside, 7-8' outside. Two rogue waves threw everyone around like rag dolls. While probably not double overhead, if had to be at least 9 feet.
It was a bit crowded so I didn't do to well, only catching two short rides - one were I had to exit quickly after dropping in before hitting the jetty, another where the wave just broke too fast due to the tide dropping. I almost got one really nice ride, but had to bail to get out of the way of someone was coming down the line. I almost got pitched on that one.
Anyway, it was fun being out in such power with great summer like weather to boot.

Surfed Shores this afternoon, and it would've been crazy awesome if it hadn't been for the ridiculous rip current that went through all the good surf. The wind didn't help things much either. Surprisingly though, it wasn't all that busy this weekend, even with a few swells coming in.

I surfed Scripps Pier this morning between 730 and 915. There were lots of close-outs, but also really fun waves. I caught a bunch of nice rides. It was clean, no wind and some, but not too many people out.
Don't know about the size, I have lost most sense of how big waves are. But I'd guess around 3-5 ft with occasional bigger sets.
Unfortunately, I had to go to work...

DP at Seaside this morning. When I arrived , it was flat. Paddled out anyway, and waves started rolling in an hour before high tide at 2-3 ft with some shoulder high sets. Nobody was really getting much. I did manage to get a couple of waves that had steep drops, that would immediately mush out - Seaside is a strange wave. If was fun getting used to my new big wave board, but would have been better had I brought a fish.

Yep, Sunday - early morning for me - even with the it's bumpyness (is that even a word?) was a fun day. What I enjoyed most about it was that some of the beginner types who have been clogging the line up on smaller days at this break couldn't even get out. Being caught inside was brutal. The few who did make it out ended up setting over on the shoulder trying to avoid the bigger cleanup sets. That left only me and one other guy setting on the point ducking and dodging trying to pick off what we could.

DP @ Tabletops this morning. I was jonesing serious as it's been 8 days of no surf.
Mostly 2-3 ft, and long waits. I did manage to snag a nice steep left that went for 100 yards. Other than that, it was mushy due to the high tide.
On a side note, for the past two weeks I've been trying a 7'4" Brewer TriFin purchased off Craig's list about two months ago. Last week, a friend said I needed bigger fins, and lent his Al Merrick FCS 5's. They hold real well, add more drive into the turns, and make the board pivot faster when hitting the top. What a difference!

Evening session at Osprey with the math teacher. The waves were 2-4 ft, and noticably stronger than this morning. For an evening session, the form was not too bad, and the rides were pretty long. The only drawback were the long lulls, which was common earlier. Overall, it was fun go out.

Surfed Osprey at Sunset Cliffs with kitasan, mushy and big and totally fun, fun shoulder to head high surf. There was one overhead set that cleaned us all out. Another great day at Sunset Cliffs with super long rides and easy rolling surf.
