    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.surfingsandiego.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=1814" rel="nofollow">vegas mike</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> What places are good at what tides?<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 November 2009 at 10:01am<br /><br />just to add to what baratacus said<br /><br />at reefs<br />swell size will also effect the break.<br />if the waves are small then the tide needs to be lower so the smaller waves will "trip" over the reef<br />when the waves are bigger then the water can be deeper.<br /><br />this is really something you have to do your own research on. <br />back in the day before surfline and all that stuff, you had to learn the breaks and what swells and tides worked at them.<br /><br />it's just part of surfing, enjoy the search.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.surfingsandiego.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=1420" rel="nofollow">kitasan</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> Sessi&#111;n Reports<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 November 2009 at 9:44am<br /><br /><div align="left">DP at Del Mar.&nbsp; Rode a 6'3" quad in 3-4ft surf.&nbsp; Nice head high bombs but not enough of them (~40 min intervals).&nbsp; Surf was decent till about 7am, then the tide really started softening things up.&nbsp; Only caught one quality wave, but made it worth the effort.&nbsp; I'm really starting to like quads more and more.&nbsp; They carry speed through turns.&nbsp; It feels like riding a skateboard.<br><br>Still some fun surf out there. The beaches look like a better option this morning, with more power. <br><br></div><div align="left"></div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.surfingsandiego.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=1093" rel="nofollow">Baratacus</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> What places are good at what tides?<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 November 2009 at 8:30am<br /><br /><P>There are so many variables that there is no way to encompass them without a multi page post.&nbsp; Just for one beach alone you may have 4 or 5 different breaks.&nbsp; I'll use O.B. as an example.&nbsp; You have the south side of the pier which is rocky, the north side of the pier which is deeper, but then develops a sand bar on the outside as you go further north towards the tower.&nbsp; When you hit the little rock outcropping there's another steep section from there to the small jetty, and then over on the north side of the small jetty (dog beach) theres a long shallow area and then a deeper section over by the channel jetty.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; At any given time, one of these areas can be "Going off" while the other areas may be crap.</P><DIV></DIV>As a general rule, the beach breaks tend to be better at high tide, but that depends on how steep the beach is and how big the swell is.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; If you have a really steep beach, high tide will mean that the waves are going to be breaking right on the sand.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; If you have a sand bar or rocks outside, then you have&nbsp;a nice outside break on low tide while the insde break is mushy and churned up.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The direction of the swell does play&nbsp;a part in how the surf will be on the different beaches and sections.&nbsp; Again,&nbsp;some beaches can pick up swells from different directions depending on where on that beach you&nbsp;go out. <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;Surf cams are your best friend.&nbsp;&nbsp;There are only a few local live cams.&nbsp; One in OB, one in PB.&nbsp;&nbsp; Surfshot takes video footage of all the breaks 2x/day.&nbsp; once in the morning, once in the afternoon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</DIV>]]>

Poor form, mushy take off into big walls, but it made for super fun drops. Caught 4 big ones and a couple small ones then off to work I go. <br /><br />Had the new (green) fish out, set it up with bigger back fins and I was suprised how well it help up, I might have to reconsider the quad as a big wave option. <br />]]>

It paddled better than the white one but was harder to duckdive, but man oh man it handled steepness with no problem. It wasn't barreling, but definitely steep and it did not slide out at all. <br /><br />Happy with both, but I think I only need one, still thinking what to do...]]>
