    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.surfingsandiego.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=1093" rel="nofollow">Baratacus</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> Boardworks paint chip repair<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 07 November 2009 at 10:54am<br /><br /><P>You can't just paint over the chips.&nbsp; The paint on the board is in the gel coat.&nbsp; the outer gel coat can and will chip off when it takes a hit.&nbsp; &nbsp;It doesn't mean that the under coat of epoxy cracked.&nbsp; Your board is most likely still water tight, but check to make sure the under coat of epoxy is not compromised.&nbsp;&nbsp; The gel coat on these epoxy boards is brittle and easy to crack.&nbsp; I've got&nbsp; a few chips on mine just from laying it on the pavement or bumping a wall.&nbsp; It doesn't spider like a PU board it just chips off.&nbsp;&nbsp; When you patch it you can just use epoxy resin from a patch kit to smooth over the hole in the surface &nbsp;and then paint it with an epoxy spray paint.&nbsp; spray a few heavy layers of clear coat over the area to keep the paint from getting scraped off.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The last patch I did to my gel coat was over a year ago and it's held up great. </P>]]>

I'm not gonna paddle out in that - I'm almost certain I wouldn't make it.<br /><br />Maverick's (according to surfline) is 25-30 feet with occasional 35 footers. Ocean Beach (SF) is triple overhead.<br /><br />Guess I'll go to the pool or yoga instead today! :(]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.surfingsandiego.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=1737" rel="nofollow">goofypops</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> booties... for your feet!<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 07 November 2009 at 9:35am<br /><br /><div align="left">Picked up a pair of Oneill Mutant Split-toe booties this past Thur and tried them out yesterday morning.&nbsp; I'm a size 10.5 and usually wear 11 for reg footwear.&nbsp; I ended up getting sz 10 for the Mutants.&nbsp; Fits great with no problems.&nbsp; Love the external forefoot support without an actual strap.&nbsp; Very sticky once on the board.&nbsp; Did wax my board but not as much as usual.&nbsp; It did take a couple of attempts before successfully popping up due to the "new feel" but it was great once it happened and knowing how comfortable I was in the water. <img src="http://www.surfingsandiego.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" alt="Big%20smile" /><br></div><div align="left"></div>]]>

Steamers is a world class wave, but when it is good, there are lots of nasty personalities out there.  There are other breaks that are fun that are not as well known to the south.  North of town a way there are some good breaks that get good waves Scott's Creek, Wadell, Davenport, when they are big they are pretty intimidating.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Santa Cruz seems to have a lot more low lifes who will smash your car windows to steal an ipod or slash your tires if you are not a local.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The surf culture is much more laid back in San Diego.  Nobody cares what end of town you live in when you surf, not true in Santa Cruz area.  ]]>
