Punta San Jose Surf Guide
Punta San Jose is a fun right hand reef about 4 hours south of the border that picks up everything from a south swell to a sizeable west. This stretch of Baja can be really windy, but luckily the point protects the waves from the prevailing north wind and the kelp beds on the outside help keep it clean as well. Depending on the swell there are a number of takeoff zones. When it lines up right you can take off in the outside bay and connect to the inside for a pretty long ride. Because the prevailing winds tend to blow the surface water out to sea and cause upwelling of the colder water, Punta San Jose can be downright freezing even in the middle of summer.
